Process of Silica Sol Precision Casting
Pattern Creation: A wax or plastic pattern of the desired part is created using a mold or injection molding process. Multiple patterns can be attached to a wax tree to form a cluster.
Assembly: The wax tree or cluster is then dipped repeatedly in a ceramic slurry, coating it with a fine ceramic shell. Each dip allows the slurry to dry and harden, forming a ceramic shell around the wax pattern. This process is repeated multiple times to build up a thick ceramic shell.
Wax Removal: Once the ceramic shell is sufficiently thick, the entire assembly is heated to melt and remove the wax or plastic pattern, leaving behind a hollow ceramic mold.
Preheating: The ceramic mold is preheated to a specific temperature to remove any remaining moisture and to prepare it for the molten metal.
Casting: Molten metal, such as stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum alloys, or bronze, is poured into the preheated ceramic mold. The metal fills the cavity previously occupied by the wax or plastic pattern.
Cooling and Solidification: The filled mold is allowed to cool and the metal solidifies within the ceramic shell.
Shell Removal: Once the metal has cooled and solidified, the ceramic shell is removed by mechanical means or through chemical dissolution (if using soluble ceramic materials).
Finishing: The casting undergoes finishing processes such as grinding, sandblasting, machining, and surface treatment to achieve the desired final dimensions, surface finish, and appearance.
